How I Got The Giraffe Kiss.
It was on a chilly Saturday morning at around 8:00 am, i was lazily lying on my bed thinking about life. I suddenly remembered that the previous night i had planned to wake up early so that i can take my daughter to the nearby public hopital since she had a terrible cough. I imagined how late I was and how long the queue would be at the hospital i also thought of how i was going to take a shower with the murky ice cold water from the tap, loooking at my daughter she was loudly snoring so i felt like waking her up was a big punishment.
Hmm , i hurriedly woke up threw away my blanket rushed to the kitchen prepared some tea, took the cold shower and off we left. On our arrival at the hospital i was surprised that the queue was not as long as i expected, i silently thanked God of how lucky i was on that day, deep in my thoughts i knew that i would be attended to much earlier ,rush home and finish my chores. Well , the clock was ticking and nothing was happening all the patients were complaining of how slow they were served, I got angry after standing for five solid hours without seeing the doctor i hastily left the hospital and went to the nearest chemist where i bought some drugs . Looking at my daughter her eyes glistened with unshed tears and her lips quivered ominously she was wondering why we left the hospital without drugs.
We walked slowly towards home, on the way we stopped via the grocery store to buy some fruits and vegetables bearing in mind that i had a sick child i had no option but to pick the best fruits from the stall. Finally we got home so I immediately administered the drugs in the required amounts to my daughter, served her some fruits and began to do my chores. When she was done , she was was like mummy can i go put and play with my friends?, as a loving mum i gave her a big ‘ yes’ by nodding my head i was so exhausted that i couldn’t open my mouth to utter the word yes. around 4pm something hit my mind , i started asking myself ‘ what are we going to take for supper?’. As i gazed out of my bedroom window i saw heavy dark clouds it was about to rain so heavily so immediately checked for my daughter’s whereabouts, commanded her to stay indoors even though she buried herself inside my laps because she wanted to come along she had no option but to stay behind. When i got back home from the supermarket I felt like I should relax for a while so i grabbed my phone, logged into my Facebook account and i was perplexed that the first post i saw was about ‘wildlife day’ and the theme was ‘celebrating the big cats’, how could i forget such an important occasion ? i lamented, i felt like i had missed a lot about such a special day because was always fascinated by nature since my childhood.
I had deep thoughts about it and i asked myself “ how can i compensate for missing on wildlife day celebration?, oh!, i told myself its not too late to show nature some love by simply visiting the “Giraffe Centre” that way i would interact with the gentle giants. Early the next morning April 4th at around 10 am I left for the giraffe centre in Karen and believe me you I enjoyed it, first of all I and other nature enthusiasts were welcomed in the lecture room and we were educated on matters of giraffe conservation where by we learnt about the conservation status of giraffes in the world, we also learnt about the species of giraffes in the world . interestingly i found out that Kenya is home to three main species namely : the Maasai Giraffe, the Rothschild giraffe and the reticulated giraffes. By the way the giraffe species that is found at the Giraffe centre is the Rothschild giraffe. Later on i was given some pellets to feed the giraffe by some guides. To my shock i was stuck by one glaring fact’ a giraffe kiss’,wow I smiled and I even got closer for more kisses!, my day at the giraffe centre was so eventful and colourful as i learned more about conservation of giraffes and other animals.
